Vier behinderte Kinder im Alter von 10 Jahren. Vier filmisch dokumentierte Arbeitsvorgänge. Im visuellen und akustischen Fokus der Kamera stehen Kraftakte. Jedes dieser Kinder vollbringt für sich eine entscheidende Leistung.

It works dokumentiert den Willen etwas zu schaffen und zu vollbringen.

It works: es geht, es geschieht, es gelingt, es arbeitet, es passiert.

Gerald schreibt am Computer. Buchstaben, Silben, Wörter – und schließlich den Satz: „Das Schiff schwimmt über das Meer“. Ein selbstverständlicher Vorgang wird zur gelebten Herausforderung einer Hand mit dem Tastaturwerkzeug.

Lilian krault, taucht und schwimmt. – Der ganze Körper schwingt und kompensiert im rhytmischen Einsatz einen „fehlenden“? Körperteil.

Valentin hört Musik. Seine Erscheinung gleicht einem sensiblen Messinstrument, das gehörte Schwingungen in gestische Sprache übersetzt.

Michael erzählt seiner Mutter die Ereignisse des Schultages. Phoneme und Laute werden zu den kleinsten gemeinsamen Einheiten eines größten spürbaren Interesse aneinander.

Ein gemeinsames (Schul)jahr – Persönliche Normbegriffe müssen relativiert werden; irrationale (Schwellen)Angst und Hilflosigkeit verschleiert die vorbehaltlose und wertfreie Sicht auf den MENSCHEN hinter dem/ mit dem körperlichen und geistigen Handicap. Die Metamorphose in der eigenen Wahrnehmung entsteht in der Bereitschaft sich einzulassen auf ein anderes „Geschwindigkeits“- Denken und – in der „Langsamkeit“ mehr zu entdecken. Ohne durch pädaggische, soziologische oder ästhetisierende Ansätze das Thema „Behinderung“ auf eine spezielle Schiene zu bringen. Konzentriert sich it works auf einen Abeitsprozess.

Die menschliche Leistung per se und das Wahrnehmungsinstrument Film stehen sich gegenüber.

Four handicapped children of ten, four film documents about work processes. In both a visual and acoustic sense the camera is focused on feats of strength. Each of the children accomplishes something, which, for them, is a critical achievement.

It works documents the will to achieve as well as the achievement itself.

It works: it can be managed, it’s happening, it functions, it’s taking place.

Gerald writes letters, syllables and words on the computer. Finally he writes the sentence “ The ship sails over the sea”. Something which is taken for granted, a hand on the keyboard, is experienced as a challenge.

Lilian does the crawl, dives and swims, her whole body swings, rhythmically compensating for a “missing”? limb.

Valentin is listening to music. His whole body is the equivalent of a sensitive measurement instrument which transforms wavelength into a language of gestures.

Michael tells his mother about events at school. The consonants and vowels become the smallest common units of what is felt as a great interest in each other.

A shard {\(school) year – personal definitions of normality have to be revised. Irrational fears and a feeling of helplessness obscure an unconditional and value-free view of the PEOPLE behind / with a physical or mental handicap. The metamorphosis of one’s own perception takes place in the willingness to accept another speed of thinking and in the discovery of value in slowness. Without attempting to force the film in a direction dictated by particular pedagogic, sociological or aesthetic dogma, it works concentrates on the work progress. The human achievement itself and film as an instrument of perception stand opposite one another.

Quatre enfants handicapés âgés de 10 ans. Quatre films documentaires sur des processus de travail. Au niveau visuel ainsi qu’au niveau acoustique, la caméra nous montre des actes de force. Chacun de ces enfants accomplit pour lui-même une performance décisive.

It works révèle la volonté de réussir et d’accomplir quelque chose.

It works·: ça marche, ça arrive, ça travaille, ça se met en place.

Sur l’ordinateur Gerald écrit des lettres, des syllabes, des mots et finalement, la phrase·:·“Le bateau avance sur la mer.“ Un processus naturel, une main sur un clavier, est cécu comme un défi.

Lilian fait du crawl, plonge et nage. Tout son corps s’agite et compense à l’aide de ses mouvements rythmés un membre “manquant“.

Valentin écoute de la musique. Son corps est devenu un instrument de mesure sensible qui traduit les fréquences entendues en un langage gestuel.

Michael raconte à sa mère sa journée à l’école. Consonnes et voyelles se réduisent en petites unités communes d’un grand intérêt, l’un pour l’autre.

Une année (scolaire) commune·: il faut relativiser les normes personelles. Des angoisses irrationelles (l’appréhension) et le sentiment du désarroi voilent un regard dépourvu de réserve et de jugement de valeur sur l’HOMME.derriêre / avec un handicap physique ou mental. La métamorphose de sa propre perception naît au moment òu on est prêt a àccepter une “vitesse“ de pensée différente et à découvrir autre chose dans le “lenteur“.

Sans enfermer le sujet “handicap“ dans un dogme pédagogique, sociologique ou esthétisant, it works se concentre sur un processus de travail.

La performance humaine en soi et le film en tant qu’instrument de perception se confrontent dans un face à face.
